![]() ![]() ![]() I enjoyed it at first because it was difficult. Watch a lore video tbh, that way you don't have to trudge through the slowest progression in the franchise with clunky movement and hit registration all while barely absorbing the nothing pie that is endless dialogue choices of exposition(the underlying story is cool but sucks because its in an extremely dated format and cant compare to organically experiencing the sotry like im d3 and 4.) The story is good for getting to know old characters, further than that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a thing for retro games. Itemization is better than 4 but only because 4 is the worst possible, 3 was far better in those regards. The atmosphere is good though, One of my favorite parts. I played through d2r on a hardcore file for the first time right before D4 came out. Always felt like I was improving my character, and the game difficulty seriously ramps up between Normal, Nightmare, Hell, which makes the game challenging.ĭ2R by itself is like, what, $13? Like someone mentioned: it's a slightly slower pace than D3 (and I'm assuming D4 I've only played the beta), but I have never been bored. I've never felt bored playing D2 because there are so many options, an awesome replay value. There is just so much about D2 that makes it great: story and cinematics, character classes and different builds associated with each of them, runes/runewords, unique items, set items, Horadric Cube, Decard Cain, torches, gameplay, chatting with other players, PvP dueling, Cow level, ladder vs. D2, esp in Hell difficulty, is about survival. ![]() It was more about the loot (which was already pretty trashy) than surviving. I honestly thought it was pretty horrible, story-wise, gameplay-wise, ITEM-wise. so evil, it's great excellent background for D2, too, especially the NPCs and the main characters from D1.
